Last year I made Pokemon FireRed VX. Well, now it's time for Platinum! Ahem-
Pokemon Platinum VX is a hack that adds more playable Pokemon to the game with a gentler approach than your average hack. The difference is that nothing is added that really does not need to be added; no new moves, no type changes, nothing. Also unlike many enhancement hacks, Platinum VX integrates all these new Pokemon as smoothly as possible. As the name Vanilla Expanded suggests, this hack is about expanding the vanilla experience without fundamentally changing the feel of the game.
Platinum VX features:
- All 210 original Pokemon from Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum (with some given much-needed easier ways to catch them)
- 155 newly catchable Pokemon, added in the same locations you can catch them using postgame-only features like the Poke Radar or the swarm mechanic
- Updated teams on opponent trainers to use all the new Pokemon
- Alternate methods to get trade evolutions (this was not changed in FireRed VX, but trading is much less realistic on DS emulators)
- A complete database of everything you will want to know about the game, including a Pokemon list, encounter tables, boss teams, and other small but impactful changes
- Postgame update: Play through the postgame with encounters and gym leader rematches updated to match the rest of Platinum VX
- Great Marsh update: Even more Pokemon are integrated into the main game, bringing the total from 347 to 365
Platinum VX specifically does NOT feature:
- Pokemon new to Gen 4
- Moves new to Gen 4
- Items new to Gen 4
- Fairy types or other type changes
- Other excessive changes of any kind!
Pokemon FireRed VX is the result of seeing so many FireRed enhancement hacks which change so much that, at best you might as well not be playing Gen 3 anymore, and at worst you may as well not be playing FireRed anymore. You can still play old gens on Showdown because they have a unique value to them too. The point of this hack is to add significantly more content in replayability while maintaining the core of the base game and Gen 3 as a whole.
FireRed VX features:
- All 149 original Pokemon from both FireRed and LeafGreen
- 130 new Pokemon, about 2/3 added based on their locations in Gens 1, 2, and 4; and the remaining 1/3 added based on my own logic and personal preference
- Regular opponents and bosses which use new and old Pokemon alike
- All necessary items to evolve into new Pokemon (use VBAlink!)
- All TMs which were previously postgame-exclusive, giving viability to Pokemon that depend on them
- A complete database of all noteworthy changes, including a new Pokemon list, encounter rates per area, boss teams, and new items
FireRed VX specifically does NOT feature:
- Pokemon new to Gen 3
- Moves new to Gen 3
- Items new to Gen 3
- The modern physical-special split
- The Fairy type
- Other excessive changes of any kind!
Most Pokemon hacks have a very different feel to them than the original games they are based on, due to either drastic mechanical overhauls or flashy new content. This makes it difficult for players who prefer the original feel of the games to get more out of them. Pokemon HeartGold VX was made for this kind of player; its aim is to expand the vanilla experience by adding more playable Pokemon without fundamentally changing the feel of the game.
HeartGold VX features:
- All original Pokemon from both HeartGold and SoulSilver
- Increased availability for many Pokemon, most notably including all Gen 2 Pokemon
- 109 completely new Pokemon, added based on vanilla postgame features like Hoenn/Sinnoh Sound and the swarm mechanic
- Updated teams on opponent trainers to use all new and old Pokemon
- Easier access to all necessary evolutionary items and alternate methods to get trade and Sinnoh-only evolutions
- Adjustments to the levels of Pokemon throughout the game for a smoother experience
- A complete database of everything you will want to know about the game, including a Pokemon list, encounter tables, boss teams, and other minor changes
HeartGold VX specifically does NOT feature:
- Pokemon new to Gen 4
- Moves new to Gen 4
- Items new to Gen 4
- Fairy types or other type changes
- Other excessive changes of any kind!

This tool can be described as a Tiny, Dirty C command that looks for coreutils basic commands (cp, mv, dd, tar, gzip/gunzip, cat, etc.) currently running on your system and displays the percentage of copied data. It can also show estimated time and throughput, and provides a "top-like" mode (monitoring).
